haye324By Scott Gilfoid: Former WBA heavyweight champion David Haye (26-2, 24 KO’s) will be holding a press conference this Thursday, March 28th, to make a special announcement about his next career move. It’s thought that the 32-year-old Haye will be revealing his plans for fighting in June and October of this year against top 10 contenders.

Haye wants to put himself in position to become the mandatory challenger for one of the Klitschko brothers. His two-fight plan is clearly meant for him to get a title shot against IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko, who already spanked him badly two years ago.

Even with Haye working himself in as a mandatory challenger, we’re still about him having to wait at least 1 year before he gets a rematch against Wladimir, and possibly two if Wladimir decides to ask one of the sanctioning bodies permission to bypass Haye like he’s doing with Alexander Povetkin right now.

Vitali Klitschko could decide to face Haye before Wladimir, as he said in interview with the BBC that he’ll face Haye after he gets done fighting his mandatory challenger later this year, but only if Haye is ranked high. But Vitali isn’t going to do Haye any favors by just flat out picking him immediately.

Vitali says he’s going to make him wait the same way he made him wait last September when Vitali attempted to get a fight with Haye. Vitali says Haye said no to his contract offer, and for that he’s going to have to wait a long time.

It shouldn’t bother Haye waiting because he’s only 32, and he can probably make good cash fighting anyone. I just hope for his sake he fights someone good instead of the guys he’s been facing. We don’t need to see Haye fight anymore Dereck Chisora’s or Audley Harrisons.

Haye has a good opportunity to show the boxing world that he’s for real as a contender by taking on some quality guys. It’s not as if he’d have to drag them by their feet into the ring. Almost any heavyweight in the division would jump at the chance to get a good payday against Haye. He should ask Deontay Wilder to face him in June after Wilder makes short work of Audley on April 27th on the undercard of Amir Khan vs. Julio Diaz.
