Fury starts silly rumor about Price-Thompson fight being off

fury5445By Scott Gilfoid: Heavyweight Tyson Fury must be laughing today about the bogus rumor he started on his twitter about the Tony Thompson vs. David Price fight being off for February 23rd. It now turns out Fury was just flapping his gums without any knowledge at all, and sadly some boxing sites reported it as news. It’s so, so sad.

Tyson Fury this on this twitter: “Team Price offered Richard towers the fight instead of tompson! Official. U all herd it hear first price vs Thompson off!!! & they keeping it on the low low to sell more tickets off tompsons name !!!!! If y’all don’t be leave me ask @FrankMaloney ?????????”

Now why would Fury want to report that the Price vs. Thompson fight is off? I wish I could say because he wants to fight Price himself, but I don’t believe Fury wants to tangle with Price even though he’s been talking about wanting to fight him in the Summer.

Price’s promoter Frank Moloney was up in arms earlier today, saying “Twitter can be a valuable tool, but it is also like a nasty virus which spreads quickly.”

It’s not so much twitter; it’s the people that buy into what the fighters are saying.
I wish the Thompson-Price fight was called off, but substituting Richard Towers in place of Thompson would be an even worse fight, so it’s not as if there would be any improvement.

It would be over-matched light hitting opponent being replaced by another one. The only difference is Tower is a lot younger at 33 compared to the 41-year-old Thompson. Right there that would have been a dead giveaway to me that the news from Fury was pure silliness because Price has been facing pretty much just old 40-year-old guys in the past year and Towers, 33, would be much too young.

I’m really looking forward to seeing who Maloney drags out for Price to fight after the Thompson fight. I’m predicting another fighter in his 40s, possibly early 50s. I hope I’m wrong but I don’t think I will be.
