Alexander-Brook undercard to still take place on February 23rd

By Dan Ambrose: The main event fight between Kell Brook and Devon Alexander has been postponed for the February 23rd date, but the undercard will still be taking place on that date at the Masonic Temple Theatre in Detroit, Michigan. Alexander injured his biceps muscle and he won’t be able to take the fight on that date.

Rather than cancel the card, the fight card will still take place with light middleweight match-up between IBF 154 pound champion Cornelius Bundrage to defend his title against Ishe Smith. Also on the card will be J’Leon Love (10-0, 8 KO’s) facing journeyman Bronco McKart (54-10-1, 32 KO’s) in an 8 round bout. The fight card will supposed to have been televised by Showtime, but that’s not going to happen now.

There still isn’t a date for when the Brook-Alexander fight will take place, but when it does they’ll have to get a new undercard unless this fight gets put on another fight card as a co-main event.

Peterson vs. Holt on February 22nd

On February 22rd, IBF light welterweight champion Lamont Peterson (30-1-1, 15 KO’s) will finally be making his first defense of his International Boxing Federation title against challenger Kendall Holt (28-5, 16 KO’s) at the DC Armory, Washington, District of Columbia, USA.

Peterson hasn’t fought since defeating former IBF/WBA light welterweight champ Amir Khan in December 2011. Peterson has been out of the ring for various reasons, one of which was because he tested positive for synthetic testosterone while training for a rematch with Khan. Peterson is now ready to continue his career, and he’s got a really tough opponent for his first defense in #4 Holt.

Peterson is going to have to be at the top of his game if he wants to get past Holt because he’s faster and stronger than Peterson. However, Holt hasn’t beaten really quality opponents since he defeated Ricardo Torres and Demetrius Hopkins in back to back fights five years ago in 2008. That’s a long time to go between beating good opposition, and we could see Holt struggle in this fight.
