Marquez’s representative: We’ll likely give Pacquiao a rematch

pac43By Chris Williams: Fernando Beltran, the representative for Juan Manuel Marquez, says that they’ll likely give Filipino Manny Pacquiao a rematch this year in September out of fairness to him because he was good enough to face Marquez last December.

Beltran said to ESPNDeportes.com “Juan Manuel Marquez and myself are gentlemen and we know that Pacquiao gave us an opportunity, and he didn’t have to, and most probably we will give it to him.”

That’s very good of Marquez and Beltran to do this for Manny because some fighters would have walked away and let Pacquiao stew for the remainder of his career on his brutal 6th round knockout loss. That would be terrible that was the last fight of their four-fight series because the ending was so brutal and final with Pacquiao knocked out and left on the canvas face first. Pacquiao was completely out for almost two minutes from that perfect right hand shot from Marquez.

Pacquiao is still vacationing but his promoter Bob Arum wants to have him checked out at the Cleveland brain clinic in Las Vegas, Nevada to have him tested for any after effects from the knockout. They want to make sure there isn’t any serious thing that may be going on in Pacquiao’s head.

It’s hoped that Pacquiao can be given the okay to face Marquez in a fifth fight. It’s a fight that will make a lot of money, but it might be a dangerous fight for Pacquiao coming off the kind of knockout that he suffered. His promoter Bob Arum perhaps should think hard before he makes this fight because Marquez might put Pacquiao down just as bad as he did last time, if not worse.

Pacquiao’s trainer Freddie Roach is going to need to keep a close eye on him during training camp to ensure that he’s not getting knocked out all of a sudden by his sparring partners. That would be a possible sign that Pacquiao’s ability to take a hard shot will have been diminished from the Marquez knockout.
