By Jason Kim: One person forgotten last night during Juan Manuel Marquez’s win over Manny Pacquiao was Jinkee Pacquiao, the wife of Manny Pacquiao. She had to sit through two terrible knockdowns of her husband at the hands of Marquez last night, and the she erupted into tears at seeing her husband knocked out cold by Marquez in the 6th round.
Jinkee immediately attempted to get into the ring to be with her husband to see if he was alright. However, promoter Bob Arum met with her and helped console through this difficult period in the fight. Arum seemed to do a good job of calming her, but it still must have been terrible for her to see Pacquiao beaten like this. Pacquiao regained consciousness after a minute and he was fine afterwards and able to give interviews with the media.
You couldn’t blame Jinkee if she tries to get Pacquiao to retire after this, because he doesn’t need to be putting himself in danger because he’s got a more important job as a politician in the Philippines. That should be his first priority. If he gets hurt in the ring he might not be able to focus on political career.
The good news is that Pacquiao was taken to a nearby hospital and given a CAT scan on his head to find out if there was damage done by the two big right hands that Marquez had knocked Pacquiao down with. Thankfully no sign of damage was found and Pacquiao was immediately able to leave the hospital.
