wilder213 - CopyBy Chris Bax: American heavyweight boxing is in a bit of a rut at the moment. The country where greats such as Muhammad Ali, George foreman, Joe Frazier and Mike Tyson, currently has no one capable of winning world honours.

The American journalists and boxing fans have been banging on about unbeaten Deontay Wilder. Whilst he has some skill and a big right hand, anyone half good could look world class against the opposition he has been facing in his 4 year pro career. The fodder that wilder has faced so far has been awful and some weren’t fit to grace the ring in all honesty.

Lets get on to the next American hope, Seth Mitchell. In his last two fights we have discovered that Mitchell cannot hold a shot and any heavyweight with half decent power can take him out as we saw with his last fight against Jonathan banks.

Then we have Kevin “Kingpin” Johnson. Whilst Johnson has a world class defense and definitely a world class chin, he has poor attacking skills and only knows how to survive against real live opponents. Chris Arreola on the other hand has world class attack and chin, but no defense and when he fights the elite comes up short.

I rate Jonathan banks as the best American heavyweight currently out there. He has fought the better opposition, has decent power as we saw in his last fight, world class skills and is generally thought of as a world class fighter.Whilst I think he is world class, I still don’t believe he can win a world title or beat the likes of Tyson Fury, Kubrat Pulev or the paper champion Alexander Povetkin.

Deontay Wilder is Americas best hope for the future, so for the heavyweight scene in America, I hope he comes good. Here’s my top 5 American heavyweights.

1. Johnathon Banks

2. Chris Arreola

3. Seth Mitchell

4. Kevin Johnson

5. Deontay wilder
