The Future: How it should be….

Image: The Future: How it should be....by Rusty Nate: I am British! Now that is out of the way I just wanted to put out there my disappointment that so many writers seem to treat the sport and the fighters in it like a world war.

I think a lot of you guys that are reading this will probably know without names which writers are the main culprits for hate articles based on little more than emotion rather than facts of the sport or the careers the fighters have had.

I read some articles and I can feel myself getting more and more irritated by the inhuman one sided tunnel vision that is displayed by these writers.

Lets take a few fighters that are often the most “Hate Written” of all and see if we cant lay it out as it is……..

Mayweather – Pacquiao

Ok so these two are certainly no strangers to the boxing forums and they are notoriously followed by fans and writers with such an aggressive passion it’s frightening.

A lot of “Floyd Mayweather said this” or “Manny Pacquiao said that”, one is ducking the other, one is on PEDs, the other is greedy etc etc

Lets just lay this out as it is. Both of these fighters are, for lack of a better word, legendary! They have both achieved an unrivaled success in the sport and command a massive following world wide. I for one would love to see this fight happen although it is looking more and more unlikely these days but if it doesn’t happen, well then I can be happy looking at both careers and just be in owe at how good these tremendous warriors were in their time.

Fury, Price, Wilder

These three have got to be the strangest ones to understand the hating. 3 great prospects in a division that for 5-10 years now we have all agreed seriously lacks any type of competitive fighters to challenge the top two.

Whether fans and writers like it or not, these 3 are potentially the future of the heavyweight division once the Klitschko’s are through.

I agree that Tyson Fury clearly has an attitude. I agree that Deontay Wilder has not really stepped up to a level that will challenge him to the fullest. I agree that David Price could be competing with guys 3 or 4 levels above Audley Harrison but hasn’t done yet.

But with all that said they still have very few fights on their records and are we not supposed to be excited that we have 3 potential world class fighters in the Heavyweight division that are coming through the ranks together? I mean I look at this and think “great!!” yes they may be no where near the level of a Klitschko, they may not be as explosive as Iron Mike, they may not have the ring skill of Lennox Lewis or Evander Holyfield (yet) but they are all big athletic and well kept heavyweights, I say bring on the future!

Ricky Hatton, Amir Khan, Kell Brook, Tim Bradley

This is another foursome that are getting a lot of stick from writers and fans. Again this is an unreal situation!

I have a few words for people to ponder…Eubank, Benn, Collins, Watson……Hearn, Hagler, Leonard, Duran…….Ali, Fraser, Foreman, Norton.

Now before the aggression of the fans starts and people are telling me they are not in the same class. I agree that they are not BUT wouldn’t it be awesome to get a few good world level fighters that are all willing to go to war with each other to prove they are they best? If the boxing politics doesn’t get in the way of these 4 fighting then we have one hell of a few years ahead of us whilst these guys go toe to toe!

I would mention Carl Froch, Chad Dawson, Andre Ward, Mikkel Kessler and Lucian Bute as well but these guys are really going to have no problem fighting each other to show their worth, the Super Six certainly proved that!

I guess to sum up what I am saying is whether your British, American, Chinese, Indian or whatever, why can we not as fans and writers just look past the hatred of fighters from different countries or personalities and see the positives of what is finally starting to look like a revival of boxing….. for the near future at least, Boxing looks to be coming back with a bang!!
