Image: Pacquiao promises a different kind of fight with MarquezBy Chris Williams: The soon to be 34-year-old Manny Pacquiao (54-4-2, 38 KO’s) is promising a different kind of fight with 39-year-old Juan Manuel Marquez (54-6-1, 39 KO’s) in their fourth fight together coming up on December 8th at the MGM Grand, Grand Garden Arena, in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA. Pacquiao is promising more aggressiveness at the same time as more movement.

How Pacquiao can achieve both goals at the same time as the real question they seem to run counter to each other, and neither appear to be achievable to an aging fighter that’s clearly lost a few steps.

Pacquiao said to Abs-cbnnews.com “It’s going to be different compared to the last three fights that we had…My focus on training camp is aggressiveness. We’re not relying on one strategy and movement. We try different moves.”

Sounds like the same strategy to me as the three previous fights. Pacquiao has ALWAYS fought aggressive against Marquez and every other opponent he’s faced during his career. For Pacquiao now to be saying he’s going to be using more aggressiveness as well as a jumble of other strategies just sounds like mass confusion to me.

Pacquiao may end up running around the ring seemingly without any sense, wasting energy and tiring out. That kind of plan doesn’t look like it’s going to work. Marquez is a professional and Pacquiao can’t beat a solid fighter like him with mass chaos where Pacquiao is just coming up with new junk on the fly to try anything different to see if it can throw Marquez off.

Pacquiao won’t be able to beat a fighter like Marquez using a Naseem Hamad type fighting strategy, and that what it sounds like Pacquiao will be doing. We saw how Hamad was neutralized by a solid Mexican fighter in Marco Antonio Barrera, so if Pacquiao tries a circus like type fight against Marquez he’s going to get badly beaten up. The only way I can see Pacquiao winning using a strategy like that is if he gets another controversial decision in a fight he appears to lose.
