Should Khan move up to 147?

Image: Should Khan move up to 147?By Alex Prodromou: Why is Amir Khan still draining himself in attempting to make light welterweight? Hasn’t he learnt his chin is suffering? He got KO’d by Breidis Prescott because of weight issues. Khan lost to Lamont Peterson because he had no stamina as he was weight drained. He then had this big comeback fight again WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia which Khan lost due to again, weight issues.

Now he is again attempting to make Light Welterweight for his next fight? What is he doing? Ideally this Vyacheslav Senchenko is who Amir Khan should have faced in order to chase a possible rematch with WBA Welterweight king Paulie Malignaggi or a future fight with Ricky Hatton.

Senchenko hasn’t got that much power, he is a bit like Andriy Kotelnyk in style. Amir is almost guaranteed to KO this guy. I mean Amir should have faced him whatever the cost.

Amir’s next fight has been announced and it is against a fighter ranked around 70 on boxrec.com. To be honest I feel so sorry for Amir because he is a really nice guy, he could have made a ton of more money in boxing but he has been poorly managed. He has been put in there with fighters he shouldn’t of have even gone near.

I also understand that draining himself down to a particular weight can give him a physical advantage over a much smaller opponent, but I think everyone would agree with me that he does not need that advantage as he is so quick. Power, that he obviously wants, only comes at your natural weight and at this moment in time his natural weight is at Welterweight. He even admitted this when he was on Ringside with Kell Brook.

This is why he has to work on his legs so much. This is also why he has no snap in his punches. He needs to go and watch videos on how Tyson used to punch and see how he brought power from the floor to his hands. He needs to see how Tyson used to throw a right hand like he was bringing a sack of potatoes over his shoulder. He needs to learn how to punch through a target while not leaving himself open. Hopefully Virgil Hunter will teach him all this.

I am also serious when I say this but I think he needs to do some Yoga. He needs to learn how to calm down and be more patient. Also I am not saying he should always punch like Tyson but at times he is more one dimensional than Ricky Hatton. Amir needs to take this step as he needs to put more power in his punches to fight on the inside. He does the same thing every fight of running and firing quick combinations like an amateur. Come on Amir, you had and still have the ability to be one of the greats from this generation.
