Image: Magee vs. Kessler: Someones getting knocked out on December 8thBy Scott Gilfoid: WBA World interim super middleweight champion Brian Magee (36-4-1, 25 KO’s) is getting the 33-year-old Mikkel Kessler (45-2, 34 KO’s) at the exact right moment in his career when Kessler is starting to show serious signs of deterioration as they head towards their December 8th clash at the BOXEN, in Herning, Denmark.

Kessler was knocked down in his last fight by Allan Green and might have had a lot more problems had Green not stopped punching altogether after the 1st round. Kessler has fought only a couple of times in the past two years, and that ring rust could sink his ship on December 8th against a very sharp and very powerful Magee. Both of these guys are flawed, let’s no mince words about it.

But Magee is fighting on a higher level right now than Kessler, and with his power I see him giving Kessler a lot of problems. The fight is taking place in Kessler’s home country of Denmark but it won’t help him. If anything, it’ll hurt Kessler by making him more prone to mix it up with Magee because the crowd will be encouraging him so much.

The thing is Magee hits so hard that if you try and trade with him you better hope you’ve got enough power to get him out before he gets you because you’re going to be hit hard. Magee was stopped by former IBF super middleweight champion Lucian Bute in March 2010, but that was only because of Bute’s incredibly body punching.

Magee can take head shots no problem, but he couldn’t handle the monstrous body shots that Bute kept nailing him with. Kessler doesn’t punch to the body very well, preferring instead to head hunt with all of his shots. Magee won’t have any problems with blocking or taking these kinds of shots.

Kessler and Magee will be fighting for the vacant WBA World super middleweight title.

I see one of these fighters getting knocked out in this fight because both guys can punch and will be looking for knockout from the opening bell.
