Froch working hard at building up Yusaf Mack

Image: Froch working hard at building up Yusaf MackBy Scott Gilfoid: To listen to IBF super middleweight champion Carl Froch (29-2, 21 KO’s) slathering on the compliments all over challenger Yusaf Mack (31-4-2, 17 KO’s), you’d think that Froch is Mack’s promoter rather than someone defending his title against him on November 17th at the Capital FM Arena, Nottingham, Nottinghamshire, United Kingdom.

Why is Froch pouring praise over the 32-year-old Mack’s head by the bucketful? It’s the fight is seen as a mismatch by the boxing public, and many fans are disgusted and disappointed that this fight was put together instead of a tougher match-up between guys like Andre Dirrell, Anthony Dirrell and Thomas Oosthuizen vs. Froch.

Froch said to Sky Sports News “There’s no such thing as an easy win, that’s a load of rubbish. People will say, ‘this will be an easy fight for you’, but Yusaf Mack is coming down to super-middleweight and he’s got different ideas. He’s confident, he’s strong at the weight, he’s 31 years old, ambitious and coming over to England to win my world title.”

I had to cut Froch off at this point because he just droned on and on and on about how good Mack is and it was a little unsettling. I hate when a fighter or his promoter picks out a guy that has very little chance of winning and as soon as the boxing public turn on the champion for setting up the mismatch, the champ starts smothering his opponent compliments, building him up to be the greatest fighter that ever breathed and it’s just sickening to watch. I’d like Froch to be a little more open with his thoughts about this fight.

I mean, if he sees it as a sick mismatch, then he needs to say so. It’s not as if he can’t blame it on his promoter Eddie Hearn for making the fight. That’s always a possibility, blame it on the guy who thought up the idea. If that was Hearn, then Froch should say so. If it was his great idea to fight Mack, then he should spill his guts and say he wanted an easy fight so he could catch a breather from the hectic schedule he’s had.

I do think Mack has a chance to win this fight, but only if he attacks Froch in an all out manner in the first four rounds. That’s how you beat Froch if you don’t have the greatest boxing skills. I don’t see Mack getting a decision in Nottingham no matter how good he looks. Mack is going to have to really drop all his bombs early on Froch, and hope that he can get him out of there before the fight gets to the judges. Once it gets to them, I don’t see Mack winning.
