Bute: People think my career is over; it’s not

Image: Bute: People think my career is over; it's notBy Scott Gilfoid: Former IBF super middleweight champion Lucian Bute (30-1, 24 KO’s) is foolishly being dismissed by a lot of boxing fans just because of his 5th round knockout loss to Carl Froch last May in Nottingham. It’s obviously a negative the Bute lost that fight to the much slower Froch, but it’s not the end of Bute’s fabulous career.

He’s going to come back from this loss starting with his fight against light heavyweight contender Denis Gratchev (12-0, 8 KO’s) next month on November 3rd at the Bell Centre, in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.

Bute has hand-picked one of the most dangerous punchers in the light heavyweight division in choosing the powerful 30-year-old Grachev to fight instead of a soft pick like a lot of fighters likely would have done if they were in Bute’s shoes.

Bute said to the Montreal Gazette “After one loss everyone probably thinks that Lucian Bute’s career is over. But you’re going to see that Lucian Bute is capable of overcoming difficult times and climbing back to where I was.”

I fully agree with Bute. He’s definitely capable of regaining his lost IBF strap, and he’s going to be given a quick opportunity to do just that in early 2013 when he faces Froch in a rematch in Montreal, Canada. However, first things first. Bute has to get past the hard hitting Grachev first and that’s not going to be an easy task because of how much power Grachev has going for him. He’s a bigger puncher than Froch.

Bute can’t allow Grachev to land his big power shots because if he can land his shots Bute could wind up in the same position as Grachev’s last opponent Ismayl Sillakh by getting knocked out at some point. Bute has to go back to his old style of fighting by tagging Grachev and moving away from him so that he can’t fire back with his own big shots. That’s how you beat the Grachev and Froch slow types. You smack them in the puss and then take off before they can wheel around to unload with with their own artillery.
