Image: Brook: I'm going to finish off Khan and send him into retirementBy Scott Gilfoid: Unbeaten welterweight Kell Brook figures he’s the man to put Amir Khan out of his misery by beating him and sending him into retirement when and if they face each other in 2013 like his promoter Eddie Hearn is hoping.

Brook said to Sky Sports News “I’m ready for that fight [against Khan]. Amir Khan has been knocked out at lightweight and light welterweight, and I’ll finish him off at welterweight, no problem.”

I do think Brook could put Khan out of his misery if not for the fact that Golden Boy Promotions will probably not let that fight happen. Also, for Khan to fight Brook, Khan will have to beat one or two of the top light welterweights before moving up in weight to welterweight. It makes no sense for Khan to move up now having lost his last two fights. And he can’t move up after he faces the lightweight Carlos Molina that Golden Boy hand picked for Khan. That fight proves other than Khan can still beat little lightweights with no power. It’s not as if they’re bringing Breidis Prescott back in to fight Khan. Molina has no power, and it’s a nothing fight.

For Khan to prove that he’s able to move up to welterweight, he’ll have to avenge his loss to Danny Garcia, and the beat the likes of Lucas Matthysse and the winner of the Mike Alvarado vs. Brandon Rios fight. Khan won’t fight the Alvarado-Rios winner, and he won’t fight Matthysse. The way I see it, Golden Boy will put hi back in with Garcia in a fight where Khan plays ostrich for 12 rounds, keeping his head well protected to try and win a 12 round decision.

If Khan can beat Garcia, no matter how close or how controversial, Khan then likely be put back in with Lamont Peterson to see if he can avenge that loss. I can see another controversial fight that comes out of that, but this time favoring Khan. At that point, Khan will likely deem himself the best fighter at light welterweight and then move up to welterweight without having faced Matthysse.
