A win for Broner over DeMarco will establish him as the top fighter at lightweight

Image: A win for Broner over DeMarco will establish him as the top fighter at lightweightBy Scott Gilfoid: The talented former WBO super featherweight champion Adrien Broner (24-0, 20 KO’s) is only one victory away from establishing himself as the best lightweight in the division if the 23-year-old Broner can get past WBC lightweight champion Antonio DeMarco (28-2-1, 21 KO’s) on November 17th at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

DeMarco, 26, has already shown recently with wins over Jorge Linares, Miguel Roman and John Molina that he’s the class of the entire lightweight division.

Beating DeMarco will put Broner at the top of the class and ready to move on to the next level by becoming a pay per view star along the same lines as his hero Floyd Mayweather Jr. Broner is that close to super stardom but he just needs a top fighter that can get him there, because he can’t waste time in this division. The lightweight division is just a brief stop light in Broner’s career because he’s got the size and the talent to move up all the way to welterweight where he’ll make the real money.

Broner doesn’t need to stay in the graveyard of the lightweight division which is utterly barren of talent from top to bottom. We’re talking about one of the sorriest division in boxing with the exception of DeMarco and Broner. These are the only two guys that have any talent in the entire division in my view. The rest of the guys are just fighters spinning their wheels and unable to become stars for want of talent.

For Broner to beat a great fighter like DeMarco, he’s going to go right into the teeth of DeMarco’s offense to try and beat him at his own game. He can’t let the lanky 5’10” southpaw DeMarco dictate the action from the outside because he’ll work Broner over if the fight is fought on the outside all night. Broner has to force the action and put hands on DeMarco to get him out fast.
