Image: Tim Bradley vs. Robert Guerrero in the works for December 15thBy William Mackay: Dan Rafael is reporting that a fight between WBO welterweight champion Tim Bradley (29-0, 12 KO’s) and WBC interim welterweight champion Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero (30-1-1, 18 KO’s) is a possibility for December 15th. Rafael says that the two camps are trying to work out a deal with HBO to make this fight happen.

It sounds like an interesting fight if it comes off but it’s more than likely that the fight won’t get made due to the fighters coming from the competing promotional organizations Top Rank and Golden Boy Promotions. Bradley is promoted by Top Rank, whereas the 29-year-old Guerrero is with Golden Boy. Those two companies rarely pit their fighters against each other for some reason, even though it’s in their best interest for them to do so.

It would really help Top Rank if Bradley was able to fight Guerrero because a win over him would help Bradley make more of a name for himself. In turn, that would help Bradley in landing a rematch with Manny Pacquiao that fans might want to see or get a fight against WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. That would be ideal. Bradley faces Mayweather for a nice payday, and then the winner of that fight takes on Pacquiao.

Guerrero wants to fight Mayweather himself and has been calling him out in the media for the past year without any luck. Guerrero recently moved up from lightweight to welterweight just to try and get a fight with Mayweather. Guerrero defeated slugger Selcuk Aydin by a 12 round unanimous decision last July to pick up the interim World Boxing Council welterweight title. That should have put Guerrero in a good position to fight Mayweather.

However, Mayweather hasn’t agreed to fight him and it’s questionable if he ever will. Guerrero needs a big win or two for him to get Mayweather interested in fighting him, because he’s not going to do if just off his less than impressive win over Aydin. It’s going to take more than that to get Mayweather to take interest in Guerrero. A victory over Bradley would definitely help Guerrero if he can do it in an impressive manner. Guerrero has to look a lot better than he did in his struggle against Aydin.

Bradley, 28, is seen as a paper champion by a lot of boxing fans because of his controversial win over Manny Pacquiao last June. Bradley got dominated for the most part and spent a lot of time circling the ring against the quicker and stronger Pacquiao. Bradley did do a good job of coming back late in the fight to win the championship rounds based on activity over a tired Pacquiao, but it still looked like he didn’t do enough to get the win. Bradley was counting on Pacquiao asking for a rematch, but he instead decided to take a bigger payday fight Juan Manuel Marquez. Bradley then talked about wanting to target a fight against Mayweather, but that was met with cold silence from Mayweather’s side. Now there’s really not of options for Bradley other than Guerrero.
