Image: Kessler to fight Magee on December 8th in Denmark; tickets go on Sale on October 1stBy Scott Gilfoid: WBA World interim super middleweight champion Brian Magee (36-4-1, 25 KO’s) will be defending his title on December 8th against former WBA/WBC super middleweight champion Mikkel Kessler (45-2, 34 KO’s) at the BOXEN, in Herning, Denmark. Tickets for the Kessler-Magee fight will go on sale starting on October 1st for this juicy match-up between two of the best fighters in the division.

It’s interesting that Magee will be fighting in Kessler’s neck of the woods in Denmark rather than the fight taking place in Magee’s home country of Northern Ireland, because Magee after is the one with the title, not Kessler.

Kessler fought in Herning, Denmark two years ago when he beat WBC super middleweight champion Carl Froch by a 12 round unanimous decision to capture his World Boxing Council title in April of 2010 in the Super Six tournament. The fight took place in front of a packed crowd at the MCH Messecenter Herning. Froch seemed uncomfortable with with all the loud cheering and support the Danes gave to Kessler in that fight. I don’t expect Magee to worry one bit about how much screaming Kessler’s Danish fans do on December 8th. Magee is a professional and is used to fighting in foreign rings from having done it for many years. He’ll not let Kessler’s fans get to him one bit.

Kessler hasn’t beaten anyone good for quite some time. His last two fights have come against Allan Green and Mehdi Bouadla, neither of which were expected to be competitive fights. Kessler could have problems with this big step up in talent against Magee because going from the likes of Green and Bouadla to Magee is going to be something of a shock for Kessler. Green knocked Kessler down in their fight last May, and might have had a chance to win if he hadn’t stopped punching after h knocked him down.

Magee has looked good in destroying Danes Rudy Markussen and Mads Larsen in the last two years. Now he’s looking to add another Dane’s name to the growing list with Kessler. It’ll be even sweeter to beat Kessler in front of his own fans on December 8th.

Hopefully, Andre Dirrell can get a shot at the Kessler-Magee winner. That would be a beautiful match-up to see Dirrell taking on Magee or even Kessler.
