(Picture credit: Michael Freitag) By Allan Fox: The big lantern jawed unbeaten Polish heavyweight Mariusz Wach (27-0, 15 KO’s) says he plans on taking away Ring/IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko’s titles on November 10th when the two big giants meet up at the O2 World Arena, Altona, in Hamburg, Germany.
It’s hard to look at the big, slow moving Wach and consider him as a real threat to Wladimir unless the fight turns into a wrestling match. Wach is too much like former WBA heavyweight champion Nikolay Valuev with his huge 6’7 1/2″ size and his slow, slow movements inside the ring. He’s got a nice right hand but it takes ages for it to get to the target once he’s unleashed it. The only way that right hand lands is if Wladimir gets sloppy and leaves himself open for it by throwing too many shots without keeping his guard up. But if Wladimir fights defensively then Wach won’t land anything and will quickly get blown away, much like Valuev would have been had he ever fought Wladimir or his brother WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko.
Wach said “I promise a very hard and interesting fight. My goal is to take Wladimir‘s belts. It is the most important fight in my entire career but I have nothing to lose. I will be prepared by 1 million percent for this night.“
This isn’t a fight that can be won just on hard work by Wach. He needs luck, a lot of it. Wach can win the fight in one of three ways: 1. Wladimir gasses out after unloading everything but the kitchen sink in the first four rounds. 2. Wladimir suffers an injury that causes the fight to be stopped. 3. Wach catches Wladimir with a big right hand shot while Wladimir is in the process of trying to land one of his own big punches.
The chances are low that Wladimir will leave himself open to getting hit with one of Wach’s big Sunday punches. He knows that Wach is a primitive fighter and he’s not going to give him any chances to win the fight by leaving an opening for Wach to drive a truck through it.
