This is a really crucial fight for the 22-year-old Alvarez because he has to win and he has to look good in the process. Alvarez can’t afford another performance like his last one against 40-year-old Shane Mosley where Alvarez looked frustrated at his inability to put Mosley away.

Alvarez has got to stay calm and not get frustrated that his opponent is actually trying to beat him instead of just laying down and letting him win. Part of the problem for Alvarez is that Golden Boy has matched him up with way too many soft opponents by putting him against smaller fighters like Matthew Hatton, Alfonso Gomez, Jose Miguel Cotto, and they’ve also hurt Alvarez by matching him against so many older fighters like 40-year-old Lovemore N’dou, 40-year-old Carlos Baldomir and 40-year-old Shane Mosley.

There’s just been way too many soft fights for Alvarez to the point where he seems out of sorts when he’s facing someone that has come to win. Josesito Lopez is going to be coming to win this fight, and if Alvarez can’t deal with that without losing his composure then he can pretty much forget about getting a big money fight against Mayweather or Cotto. Alvarez has to keep it together mentally and look like a winner in victory. A

Alvarez needs to work his mobility because he was exposed a little by Mosley when he used movement. Alvarez is a fighter that fights flat-footed most of the time, and when he’s forced to move, he starts gasping for breath and looking winded. It’s only a matter of time before Alvarez faces someone that can box and use the entire ring. He’s going to be in trouble when that happens. I’m not sure if Lopez is the guy that can do that but someone will and that’s going to be a loss for Alvarez unless he improves that part of his game.
