Pacquiao’s next fight was always going to be in Las Vegas, but the only thing wasn’t clear was which venue.

It doesn’t really matter where it takes place because unless Pacquiao fights someone good, it may not sell out. His promoter Bob Arum has three options available for Pacquiao – Tim Bradley, Miguel Cotto or Juan Manuel Marquez.

Arum is reportedly leaning in the direction of picking the 39-year-old Marquez for the fight, but Bradley has a chance of getting picked if Pacquiao wants to try and avenge his defeat by him badly enough. Pacquiao was beaten by Bradley last June, and the loss may be eating at the Filipino to where he could choose to fight him again even though it will make a lot less money than Arum’s other options of Cotto or Marquez.

None of the options that Arum has chosen for Pacquiao are particularly interesting because they all involve Pacquiao fighting guys that he already fought before.

Arum is counting on the boxing public to want to see the fights for the 2nd or the 4th time as badly as they did on previous occasions. Personally, I think it’s bad for the sport to have promoters pushing the same fights over and over and over again without expanding into new fighters.

Arum should be thinking about the long term health of the sport and for his own promotional team, because if he keeps shoving Marquez-Pacquiao, Bradley-Pacquiao and Cotto-Pacquiao down the throats of the boxing public, other fighters won’t get the chance to establish themselves. Floyd Mayweather Jr. isn’t someone that needs help in building up, but it would be great if Arum would make the effort to have him fight Pacquiao instead of looking to make the same old fights. But of course Mayweather would likely whip Pacquiao, and that could mess things up for Arum.

Arum could really make Pacquiao’s repeat fights a lot more interesting and perhaps profitable if he lowered the price to $5 instead of the normal asking price of $55. It’s the least he could do for having boxing fans pay to see a fight between two guys that have already fought before. There should be a steep discount so that boxing fans aren’t having to pay a ton of money to see the same fights over and over again.
