Jackson impressed with Golovkin; Proksa in trouble on Saturday

By Dan Ambrose: Former two division world champion Julian Jackson (55-6, 49 KO’s) was very impressed with what he saw of WBA World middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (23-0, 20 KO’s) after watching the 30-year-old Golovkin work out in his training camp as he prepares for his bout on Saturday night against Grzegorz Proksa (28-1, 21 KO’s) at the Turning Stone Resort & Casino in Verona, New York.

Jackson said to Doug Fisher at RingTV “My first impression of Golovkin is he’s the splitting image of Julio Cesar Chavez. He’s so accurate with his punches…The kid is impressive. I thought he was a light heavyweight. I couldn’t believe he was a middleweight. I don’t see too many middleweights standing up to his power.”

Agreed. There hasn’t been too many guys that have been able to stand up to Golovkin’s huge power. In fact, there’s been only three guys that have escaped from getting knocked out by him. Golovkin has knocked out everyone he’s faced in the last four years and that’s pretty impressive. Proksa will no doubt be added to that list on Saturday.

Proksa is tailor made for Golovkin with his tendency to slug it out and his dreadful habit of fighting with his hands down by his sides. That style is always dangerous for any fighter, but usually the guys that fight with that style at least have some hand speed and quick reflexes so that they can get out of the way of incoming fire. Proksa doesn’t have good speed and he just gets hit.

Against the mostly light hitters he’s feasted on during his seven year pro career it hasn’t mattered, but on Saturday night he’s going to be getting hit by Golovkin and there’s little chance that Proksa will be able to last long against him.

Proksa has already been beaten by Kerry Hope earlier this year. While some peopke see that as a fluke thing, I don’t. Proksa got broke down and was bothered by the little bit of power that Hope had. Golovkin is a much bigger puncher than Hope and this is going to badly for the Polish Proksa.
