Image: Froch was going to fight Yusaf Mack next but things didn't work outBy Scott Gilfoid: In a sign of how desperate things have become for IBF super middleweight champion Carl Froch (29-2, 21 KO’s) in his search for an opponent to fill his next fight date on November 17th in Nottingham, England, American light heavyweight contender #6 IBF Yusaf Mack (31-4-2, 17 KO’s) was recently considered for the fight, but the fight couldn’t get made, according to the Dailystar.co.uk.

That’s not even an appealing opponent unless you like seeing Froch fight guys that were previously stopped by Glen Johnson, Librado Andrade, Alejandro Berrio and Tavoris Cloud. Heck, if Froch is interested in fighting Mack, he might as well skip that fight and fight the guy that knocked him out, Glen Johnson. Froch already beat Johnson in the Super Six tournament, so why fight a guy that Johnson beat? What does that prove?

I have a bad feeling that Froch and his promoter Eddie Hearn are really looking to go soft for his next fight. I sure hope the Brits go for that, because I wouldn’t pay a dime to see Froch fight at the Nottingham Arena unless he fights someone that’s actually good and not some other fighters’ hand me downs. It’s going to be mighty interesting to see who ends up facing Froch on November 17th. I smell a weak coming up. This is going to be funny as heck once the announcement is made.

Hearn and Froch must feel pretty confident that the British boxing public will want to see him fight no matter who he fights, because if they were looking to fight Mack, who I personally see as a really weak opponent, then that tells you the kinds of names their looking at fight.

I wonder why they’re combing the light heavyweight division for opponents instead of the super middleweight division? The light heavyweight division is incredibly weak right now, perhaps the weakest I can ever remember it being. You’ve got paper champions left and right and pretty much only two good fighters in the entire division in Chad Dawson and Bernard Hopkins. The rest of the guys are mediocre as heck in my book. So why is Hearn and Froch looking to fight a light heavyweight? Hmmm..

Besides Mack’s name, Jean Pascal’s brother, Nicholson Poulard, has also has been a name from the light heavyweight division that Froch could fight next. I don’t which is a worse pick – Poulard or Mack, but I do know one thing I wouldn’t go see the fight in Nottingham if Froch were to fight either of them. No way. Those would be soft picks and a sad mismatch of a fight to boot.
