Image: Froch to make announcement tomorrow about next opponentBy Scott Gilfoid: IBF super middleweight champion Carl Froch will be making an announcement tomorrow about who his next opponent will be in November. There’s still no word about who that guy will be but the rumors are that Froch will be taking an especially soft opponent by the name of Nicholson Poulard, a little known light heavyweight contender who happens to be the older brother of Jean Pascal.

I won’t be surprised if Poulard is the one that Froch’s promoter Eddie Hearn has dug up, because in order to find a quality opponent that will be willing to travel all the way to Nottingham, England, Hearn will have to pay the guy well. I mean, who’s going to agree to fight for little money especially when they have to fight Froch in his own arena? We saw Andre Dirrell fight well enough to deserve a decision when fighting Froch in Nottingham only to walk out of the ring a loser by a 12 round split decision.

I actually think the 34-year-old Poulard is going to be the one that gets picked out for this fight, because if it were a well known fighter like Thomas Oosthuizen or Kelly Pavlik, word would have leaked out by now. There hasn’t been anything said, which makes me think it’s Poulard who will be getting the fight I hate to say.

I just wonder how the Brits will like the idea of paying to see Froch fight a guy Poulard. Will Froch’s fans gladly storm into the Nottingham Arena just happy to see this mismatch or will they rebel against a fight that they don’t feel is worth paying to see? I wouldn’t pay to see it. Heck, they’d have to pay me to want to see a mismatch like that. Poulard was beaten by Sebastian Demers in the past. That’s enough for me to not to ever want to see him fight.
