Image: British boxing news: 4/8/12By Dan Henderson: Welcome to this weeks British boxing news I apologize for it being a couple of days late. We have to start with the Olympics where the boxing has been entertaining and the Brits doing well with the exception of Josh Taylor who lost to world No. 1 Domenico Valentino but the commonwealth silver medalist can be pleased with his effort and look forward to going one step further at the 2014 commonwealth games and winning gold.

Freddy Evans, Andrew Selby, Anthony Agogo, Tom Stalker, Luke Campbell and Anthony Joshua are all through to the quarter finals in their respective weight classes with the latter squeezing past Cuban Erislandy Savon in a close fight but I feel Joshua shaded it.

As I reported yesterday Amir Khan will be naming his new opponent in the coming weeks and also he is to announce whether he will be changing trainer which has been discussed on most boxing forums and from the sound of the boxing public the majority seem to favour Emanuel Stewart which for me would be a good choice because Stewart would be able to sure up Khans defensive woes.

British middleweight Mathew Macklin will be fighting on the undercard of the Chavez Jr vs Martinez fight against Joachim Alcine in his last fight Macklin lost to WBC diamond title holder Sergio Martinez and will be looking for a good performance to put himself back in contention for another title shot.

Unbeaten British and Commonwealth champion ‘Saint’ George Groves defeated Mexican Francisco Sierra via a 6th round TKO after Sierra’s corner threw in the towel. It was Groves second fight in the U.S.A and the Golden Boy Oscar De La Hoya was impressed with what he saw.

Anthony Crolla has been given the last place in the Prizefighter ‘Lightweights II’ which will also feature former opponents Derry Mathews and Gary Sykes who have both beaten Crolla so there will be the chance for revenge in what is sure to be one of the best Prizefighter yet.
