Image: Haye: If Vitali has any balls, he'll fight me; I hit harder than himBy Sean McDaniel: After wiping out the always tough Dereck Chisora in the 5th round with an impressive TKO last Saturday night in front of 30,000+ fans at Upton Park in London, England, David Haye (26-2, 24 KO’s) called out WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko for a big fight that would make both fighters a lot of money.

Haye said to ESPN “If he [Vitali] has some balls, he’ll get in the ring iwth me. I believe my punching power is far superior than anyone’s on the planet.”

It didn’t take long for Vitali’s manager Bernd Boente to say no to a fight against Haye, saying to Sky Sports News “David Haye means nothing to us, and Vitali is definitely not afraid of fighting him.”

Yes, a fight between Vitali and Haye means nothing to Vitali, because he’s got a mismatch coming on September 8th against German based fighter Manuel Charr, who is expected to be easily blown out by Vitali and isn’t any threat to him like Haye would be.

The interesting thing about Boente’s rejection of a Haye-Vitali fight is the excuse Boente gave, blaming Haye for taking a fight against Chisora instead of facing Vitali. However, for boxing fans who remember the post-fight pressure conference after Vitali’s win over Chisora last February, Boente rejected the idea of Haye facing Vitali next. Instead, Boente suggested that Haye fight Chisora, which is exactly what he did. But now that the fights over, Boente is saying that Haye passed up an opportunity to fight Vitali by fighting Chisora. It seems pretty obvious that Vitali isn’t too eager to fight Haye.

Haye needs to forget about Vitali and look in another direction against someone like Alexander Povetkin or Marco Huck. Most of the heavyweights aren’t even worth fighting because they’re not very popular but a fight between Haye and the WBO cruiserweight champion Marco Huck would be a very popular fight whether it took place at cruiserweight or heavyweight. Who needs Vitali if Haye can get a fight against Huck or Povetkin.
