Image: Lemieux stops Zepeda in 2nd round KOBy Jim Dower: Former middleweight contender David Lemieux (26-2, 25 KO’s) halted his two-fight losing streak by stopping Jaundiel Zepeda (14-6-1, 11 KO’s) in the 2nd round on Friday night at the Bell Centre, Montreal, Quebec, Canada.

Lemieux, an excellent body puncher, flattened Zepeda with a left to the midsection in the 2nd rounds. The fight was then halted at 1:47 of the round.

Lemieux knocked Zepeda down in the 2nd from a hard right hand to the head. Later on, Lemieux began to work Zepeda over to the body, blasting away until finally he dropped from a hurtful looking left hand to the midsection. The fight was then halted.

While it’s always good for a fighter to get a quick knockout, in Lemieux’s case I don’t know that it will help him any. Lemieux has major stamina problems and he badly needs to start going further into his fights so that he can build up his endurance. The problem is Lemieux’s opposition up until recently had been horrible, allowing him to score quick knockouts every time out. When he finally did fight two decent middleweights in Marco Antonio Rubio and Joachim Alcine, Lemieux was beaten by both of them when they were able to take the fights into the second half. Lemieux’s stamina wasn’t good enough for him to hang. It looks like Lemieux is being put back in with the weak opposition but he’s going back to the same old thing he was doing before by knocking them out quickly and not learning anything.
