Litzau, 28, hasn’t fought since last year in June when he was blown out by undefeated Adrien Broner in the 1st round. The loss appears to have hit Litzau hard, because he’s only now getting back in the ring after an entire year off. Litzau only has himself to blame for the way he was destroyed by Broner, as Litzau made the mistake of retreating to the ropes and trying to fight Broner with his back against the ropes in the 1st round.

Litzau made things even worse by staying on the ropes and trying to fight back after he got got hurt from a big right hand from Broner. Litzau should have clinched when he was hurt, but instead he tried to slug with Broner. This in turn led to Broner rifling Litzau with shots until the referee stepped in and halted the bout.

Litzau came into the Broner fight having beaten Rocky Juarez and Celestino Caballero in back to back fights. Those wins may have given Litzau the impression that he could pound out a decision against Broner. It obviously didn’t work out well for Litzau, and now he’s in the position where he has to try and rebuild his career at 28. The time off from boxing won’t have helped Litzau, but hopefully he’s mentally over the crushing loss.
