Marquez, 38, is badly in need of a fight after his hoped for rematch with WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao went down the tubes with Pacquiao’s loss to Tim Bradley last weekend.

At this point, Marquez is looking for the best possible opponent. The 35-year-old Morales may not fit the role based on what he’s got left with his deteriorating skills, but he is just about the biggest name that Marquez will be able to get for this date.

It’s a fight that should have been made a decade ago and not now. Marquez still has most of his skills intact, but you can’t say the same for Morales. He’s still good, but he’s not where he was at back in 2000.

Morales lost his last fight against Danny Garcia last March. Morales also lost his WBC light welterweight title in that defeat.

Marquez was beaten last year by Pacquiao by a 12 round majority decision. Marquez did a good job of coming back from that loss to defeat Sergiy Fedchenko to pick up the interim WBO light welterweight title last March.

Morales will likely struggle against Marquez, because he’s lost too much of his skills for him to beat a fighter like that. Morales could make it interesting for a while, he’s still got a great jab and decent power. However, his power isn’t there at light welterweight and it’s not likely that he’ll be able to compete.
