Immediately after the fight, Bundrage said “I want Saul Alvarez.”

Alvarez is penciled in to defend his World Boxing Council 154 pound title in a pay-per-view bout on September 15th in Las Vegas, Nevada at the MGM Grand. Bundrage felt that he did more than enough to earn a fight against the 21-year-old Alvarez by knocking Spinks down three times tonight en route to stopping him in the 7th. Both fighters looked sloppy and old in there.

I’d have a hard time getting excited about seeing Bundrage face Alvarez after watching tonight’s performance from Bundrage. However, there’s not much else out there for Alvarez to fight right now. If Golden Boy Promotions doesn’t want to risk putting Alvarez in with Erislandy Lara, then Bundrage would seem to be just as good as the other guys out there, such as Austin Trout and Carlos Quintana.

In the 1st round, Bundrage dropped Spinks with a beautiful overhand right. However, Spinks crawled back into the fight with his superior inside fighting ability, and he seemed to be taking control of the fight by the 5th and 6th rounds, as Bundrage was starting to look tired.

In the 7th, a well motivated Bundrage coming off of a tongue lashing by his trainer in between rounds knocked Spinks down twice in the twice in the round. The referee stopped the fight after Bundrage began to really tee off on a badly hurt Spinks, who could do nothing to stop the incoming fire from Bundrage.
