Bradley vs. Pacquiao opinion

Image: Bradley vs. Pacquiao opinionBy Juni A. Rosa: I have never been disgusted with the judging of boxing as I was on Saturday night in the Manny Pacquiao vs. Tim Bradley fight. We have had many bad decisions, but this one ranks one of the tops in history.

Bradley is a great fighter, which I felt had the chance to give Manny Pacquiao trouble and beat him, but I felt his experience and the level of opponents he has faced, was not experienced enough to handle himself well in a big fight. Which he didn’t. He kept making mistakes trying to brawl with Pacquiao and not getting the best of the exchanges, getting clobbered and hurt. If Bradley had moved side to side, used his quick hands, thrown combinations, getting out quickly, and countering, he may have beaten Pacquiao.

I have been scoring fights for a very long time (more then 15 years) and my scorecard has always been on the nose. My score was 118 to 110 in favor of Pacquiao.

I believe in a couple of reasons why this has happened.

Back in 2000, Marco Antonio Barrera and Erik Morales fought. Barrera was the Mexican star while Morales was over-shadowed by him. Before this fight took place, Barrera had 2 straight losses to Junior Jones, a fight that many felt he should have easily won. With those 2 straight losses, Morales now became the new Mexican star and Barrera was now considered washed up. But Barrera showed us that he was not going anywhere anytime soon. The fight turned out to be one of the best in history. Two guys standing toe to toe, brawling for 12 rounds. It was something every fan always wants to see. Two men fighting, none of them backing down.

Many fans as well as boxing experts agreed that Barrera had won the fight, a fight he should have lost. The decision was a very bad one. A rematch later took place resulting with another close fight, this time I, along with many, felt Morales took the rematch. Results? given to Barrera. I felt because of the bad decision of the first one, they wanted to just give him this one.

When Pacquiao fought Marquez in their 3rd meeting, I scored it 116 to 111 in favor of Marquez. Again, many felt Marquez did enough for the win, but it was given to Pac.

Now my opinion about last Saturday night’s fight.

1) I feel with the bad decision they made, giving Pacquiao the fight over Marquez will keep the fight alive between Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather. If the decision would have been given to Marquez, the possibility of a match between Pacquiao and Mayweather would not take place, and no one wants to see another fight between Marquez and Mayweather, which was a lopsided decision. So I guess you can call it Karma.

2) Today, boxing continues to die while MMA emerges as one of the top contact sports. Five years ago we had many stars; today, we have no stars. All we have is Pac and Mayweather.

With Mayweather facing jail time, and Pacquiao now being the only one keeping the sport alive, we need another star. Well why not give the decision to Bradley? We have a controversial decision, and now a new star is born.

Bradley in his interview had said that he would like to see the video tape to see if he had won the fight.
