Image: Bradley: Pacquiao isn't as good as people say he isBy Chris Williams: Tim Bradley fought and beat Manny Pacquiao last Saturday night, and he came away from the fight less than impressed with him. I guess Bradley was expecting Pacquiao to be a monster after watching him beat guys like Ricky Hatton and Miguel Cotto.

Bradley said this about Pacquiao as quoted by thesun.co.uk “I thought I won. I didn’t think he was as good as everyone says he was. I didn’t feel his power.”

That’s the thing. Pacquiao isn’t really a big puncher. Even Oscar De La Hoya noted that in his fight with Pacquiao in 2008. What made Pacquiao so good in the past was his blazing hand speed and high work. When he was younger, Pacquiao would overwhelm his mostly over-matched opposition with nonstop combinations that were thrown with such speed that it was almost impossible to track or block. But the Pacquiao that fought Bradley was one that could only fight in brief spurts near the ends of the round.

In the major portions of every round, Pacquiao was limited to throwing just one punch at a time with his left hand. He wasn’t the same old fighter he once was. Indeed, Pacquiao just looked like an old fighter that needed a lot of rest breaks for him to recoup after throwing shots.

Naturally, Bradley isn’t going to be impressed with Pacquiao, because he’s been facing mostly younger guys up until he joined with Top Rank last year. Bradley is now facing old guys since signing with them. Hopefully, this doesn’t erode Bradley’s skills, because he’s faced a 40-year-old Joel Casamayor and now 33-year-old Pacquiao, who fought like a 38-year-old.

Pacquiao couldn’t hurt Bradley because he was only throwing telegraphed punch at a time, and didn’t use his right hand at all. Bradley has been in with much better skilled fighters than this in the past, which is why he wasn’t impressed with Pacquiao.
