Image: Andre Ward to announce his next fightBy Scott Gilfoid: WBA/WBC super middleweight champion Andre Ward (25-0, 13 KO’s) says he’ll be announcing his next fight in a trip to Las Vegas, Nevada this weekend.

Ward said on his twitter page “On my way to SFO heading to Vegas. I’m announcing my next fight and location.

It’s pretty much academic who the talented Ward will be facing next. He’s going to be fighting WBC light heavyweight champion Chad Dawson (31-1, 17 KO’s) on September 8th. The only thing that is still unknown at this point is the venue for the bout. I kind of goes without saying that it will take place in Las Vegas, because Dawson probably won’t be too keen on fighting Ward in his home city of Oakland, California. It’s a great place, but I can’t see Dawson agreeing to that. He’s already agreed to fight Ward at 168 rather than a catchweight, which would be the smarter thing for Dawson to do.

Ward is coming off an impressive dominating performance over Carl Froch last December in the Super Six tournament finals. Ward made Froch look embarrassingly limited by jabbing him to the head all night and getting the better of him on the inside. Froch was as helpless as a kitten in close, and could do little more than land a few pesky shots every now and then. It was Ward’s night and his star shone bright in that fight.

Ward is now moving on to take on the best fighter at light heavyweight in Dawson, albeit in a fight at 168. Dawson says he has no problems making 168, so there won’t be any lame excuses from him after the fight I hope. I don’t want to hear him bellyaching how it wasn’t his night like Froch was yapping about after getting spanked by Ward.
