Image: Pacquiao/Bradley 24/7 episode 2 even more boring than the 1st episodeBy Chris Williams: It’s hard to believe it but the second episode of HBO’s Pacquiao/Bradley 24/7 was even more boring to watch than the first episode. It’s hard to imagine anything worse than the first one, because it was painful to watch but the second was just as bad with Manny Pacquiao playing the guitar to a roomful of his followers, singing religious songs and not talking enough about boxing.

I have no problem with religion but to have Pacquiao talking about it and singing about it on a show that’s designed to try and interest the boxing public into purchasing his fight against Bradley on pay-per-view. I think HBO is blowing it in a MAJOR way by including this kind of stuff. I think it’s all well and good for Pacquiao, but it shouldn’t be the things that HBO putting on the show. If you’re going to follow a guy around, focus on the stuff that is relevant to boxing.

I don’t get it. It just seems weird with Pacquiao talking and singing about religion and then in the next segment you see Pacquiao driving a Ferrari around. What’s that? They don’t seem to go together. Or in the first episode Pacquiao is talking religion and then you see him firing guns left and right on the gun range. I don’t get it.

I’d much prefer to see Pacquiao in the training at the Wildcard gym, talking with Roach or Alex Ariza about boxing rather than Pacquiao’s singing, guitar playing, or his talk about his religious awakening. It just doesn’t go with what the who 24/7 is supposed to be about. I think whoever is the producer of the show needs to be replaced with someone with some editing and directing ability. If I was in charge of the show, I’d tell the camera people to turn off the camera as soon as Pacquiao starts talking religion or singing. I wouldn’t want to waste the film. As soon as he starts talking boxing, I’d have the cameras turned back on.

Sadly, the best part of the show was when Freddie Roach was ripping into Alex Ariza. It seemed kind of silly how much of a production Roach was making out of Ariza trying to help out a fighter that badly needed help [Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.], and I got the feeling like it was some kind of popularity contest. It seems like a really poisonous and petty. If Pacquiao loses to Bradley on June 9th, it won’t be because Ariza wasn’t there for Pacquiao for two weeks of his training camp. It’ll be because of a combination of age creeping in for Pacquiao, too many wars, and a lack of a good game plan designed by his trainer Roach. If Pacquiao loses the fight, you have to look at Roach and not Ariza. Roach is the one that teaches the skills and comes up with the game plan. I almost feel like Ariza is already being put in a position where he could be the scapegoat if Pacquiao looks terrible again actually loses this time.
