Haye will do a better job on Chisora than Vitali did

Image: Haye will do a better job on Chisora than Vitali didBy Sean McDaniel: Dereck Chisora has done a decent job against giant heavyweights Robert Helenius and Vitali Klitschko recently, although he lost both of those fights. Chisora fought well against both fighters. He’s kind of made a name for himself from those two fights alone.

However, on July 14th, Chisora will be facing former WBA heavyweight champion David Haye at Upton Park, and I question how well Chisora can do against this kind of heavyweight. Chisora is likely going to have problems against Haye because he doesn’t have the hand speed, size or the type of punches that would give Haye problems.

Chisora throws looping shots and very few combinations. He’s more of a one punch at a time type of fighter. To be sure, Chisora can throw some nice punches from time to time, but he’s not able to throw them consistently like Haye. Chisora has to load up with his shots in order to generate a lot of power. When he’s throwing combinations, his power seems very average. Chisora can’t throw combinations from the outside for some reason and needs to be close.

If Chisora is close to Haye, it’ll likely be Haye that is winning all the exchanges because his hand speed is so much better than Chisora. He’ll get his shots off quicker and in higher volume than Chisora. I think Chisora has a good chin, but it won’t matter against Haye because he hits his opponents with shots they don’t see coming because of his speed.

Chisora likely wouldn’t have done as well he did in the Vitali fight if Vitali hadn’t injured his left shoulder early in the fight, forcing him to fight Chisora with just his right hand alone. That was all that Vitali needed to win the fight by a lopsided decision, but he was still very winded from the pressure that Chisora put on him. But a younger Vitali without any injuries would have been pure hell for Chisora, because he’d have been able to fire on him with both hands and he likely wouldn’t have gassed out.

Chisora will have the weight advantage over Haye by close to 30 pounds on July 14th, but that won’t be useful weight that will be an advantage for him. Haye’s foot and hand speed will keep Chisora from being able to use his size to work for him. It’ll be like watching a young Jack Dempsey take on Jess Willard. Haye will be too quick for Chisora.
