Image: Rogan unhappy that Fury fight changed from 10 rounds to 12By Sean McDaniel: 40-year-old Martin Rogan was furious when he learned that his fight with Tyson Fury tomorrow night will be a 12 round fight instead of the 10 rounds that he previously thought it was going to be. Fury and Rogan will be fighting for the vacant Irish heavyweight title in Belfast, Northern Ireland.

The 12 round fight will obviously favor the 23-year-old Fury, as Rogan is a lot older than him and he’s had problems with stamina and eye swelling in some of his fights in the not too distant past. At the weigh-in, Rogan found out about the fight being lengthened and he was not a happy camper. It’s unclear whether he’ll be fighting for the Irish heavyweight title or not. He says he’ll still take the fight but whether he’ll fight for the Irish belt isn’t too clear.

This isn’t a good situation for Rogan, because he’s trained thinking it was going to be a 10 round fight. To all of a sudden let him know that it’s a 12 rounder, it’s not a good deal. Besides that, Rogan hasn’t been all that active as of late and to put him in with a big young heavyweight like Fury for 12 rounds is asking a lot of the older Rogan. The fight likely won’t go 12 rounds anyway, but just the same it’s not a good situation if you’re Rogan.

I don’t know who Rogan is hurting by saying he won’t fight for the Irish title. If the fight is going to be going ahead anyway, he might as well fight for the Irish strap. It’s not as if he stood a very good chance to win it anyway. He needs to open his eyes and see it from a different perspective. The people who put the fight together want it to be a 12 round fight, because it’s going to be getting a lot of boxing fans watching it on television, the internet and in person. The longer the fight goes, the better for fans.

Rogan needs to accept that it was never going to be an easy fight to begin with. He should have known it when he signed on. If two rounds or going to destroy him then he probably has no business being out there with Fury in the first place. Rogan has a puncher’s chance of winning it, so he should fight for the Irish title if he cares about it. I know I wouldn’t care a fit even if I was Irish. It wouldn’t make one bit of difference to me because I feel I would be fighting for something that boxing fans don’t really value, so it would be a waste of time.
