By Sean McDaniel: Super middleweight Kenny Anderson (16-1, 12 KO’s) blew away an overmatched Wayne Reed (8-5 3 KO’s) in a 3rd round stoppage on Saturday night in a scheduled six round bout at the Meadowbank Sports Centre, Edinburgh, Scotland, United Kingdom.

The win clears the way for a possible June 30th rematch against British super middleweight champion George Groves. That fight will likely only happen if Groves comes up empty in his title challenge next month against WBO super middleweight champion Robert Stieglitz on May 5th. If Groves comes up empty in that fight, then he’ll return to defending his British title and Anderson will be next. Anderson and Groves were supposed to fight recently but Groves suffered an injury during training camp, and then turned around and signed on to fight for the World Boxing Organization title against Stieglitz instead.

Former interim WBO super featherweight and EBU champion Alex Arthur (31-3, 21 KO’s) defeated journeyman Michael Frontin (3-12-1) by an eight round points decision. The referees decision was 80-73. Arthur, 33, has now won his last four fights dating back to his loss to Nigel Wright in December 2009.

Middleweight Craig McEwan (20-2, 10 KO’s) ended his two-fight losing streak with an eight round points decision over journeyman Paul Morby (6-13-1). The referee scored it 80-72. McEwan, 30, had lost his last two fights against Andy Lee and Peter Quillin, both by knockouts. The defeats knocked McEwan out of the top 15 in the middleweight division. He’s now trying to work his way back up the ranks to break the top tier again. Morby has now lost his last six fights.
