Fury says he put on 70 pounds of flab recently

Fury has had to work furiously to trim off that flab just to get ready for his fight next Saturday night against 40-year-old Martin Rogan (14-2, 7 KO’s) for the vacant Irish heavyweight title in Belfast, Northern Ireland.

Fury told the Dailystar.co.uk “I wasn’t training because my head wasn’t right and I put on five stone [70 pounds]. It took me two months to lose it…I was just eating junk food. Then I took Christmas off so I had to get it all off in training and it has killed me.”

That’s so sad. Fury eating himself to the point where he was weighing over 300 pounds. Well, I guess it doesn’t matter because he picked out an old enough opponent for him to beat even if he was a flabby, out of shape 300 pound fighter. But it looks like Fury took off all that lard from his body, and he’s probably weight drained unless I miss my guess. Fury says he took off 70 pounds in two months.

I don’t know about you, but that’s not a good way to take off weight. He took it off way, way too quickly and that would help explain why Fury has looked so painfully thin in recent photos of him. It looks like Fury not only took fat off, but also lost a fair amount of muscle in the process of taking off the weight. That obviously won’t help him in the Rogan fight. But we’re talking about a fighter that is about to turn 41 on May 1st, so Fury can probably get away with this unless he gets hit on the button with a big shot. But it does worry you to see Fury turning to food and letting himself go to that degree.

In a lot of cases when fighters put on and take off that kind of weight, it hurts their performances and sometimes messes them up permanently. Fury has always looked kind of flabby around the midsection. If he can’t take his career seriously, then maybe he needs to retire and look for another line of work because he’d likely be in big trouble if he was facing a good opponent in the 1st tier for his fight this Saturday instead of a 40-year-old Rogan who hasn’t exactly been one of the most busiest of fighters since getting beaten twice by Sam Sexton in 2009.

Fury had a busy to 2011, beating Dereck Chisora to capture the British and Commonwealth heavyweight titles, and also beating Marcelo Luiz Nascimento, Nicolai Firtha and Neven Pajkic

Rogan has won his last two fights since suffering the back to back losses to Sexton, defeating 3rd tier fighters Werner Kreiskott and Yavor Marinchev.

Fury takes this fight, but so what? He picked out a non-world class fighter for this one. Oddly enough, Fury sees a win over Rogan as a way to prove himself worthy of a fight against the Klitschkos. I don’t know what to think about that one. He’s got things twisted if believes a win over a near-41 year old 2nd tier fighter is going to prove he’s ready for the Klitschkos. It might prove he’s ready for David Price or Tom Dallas, but not the Klitschkos.
