Image: Arum pumping up Bradley for Pacquiao boutBy Chris Williams: Top Rank promoter Bob Arum is playing both sides of the fence in his Top Rank in house fight between stable fighters WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao and WBO light welterweight champion in their bout at 147 on June 9th a the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Arum’s not picking one fighter over the other in this bout; no doubt he wants boxing fans to see it as an even fight so it could attract more interest.

Arum said this in an interview with boxing great Sugar Ray Leonard at sugarrayleonard.com “This fight is different. Bradley is a young, hungry, undefeated fighter who can match Manny for hand speed, foot speed. He [Pacquiao] has a good punch, much better punch than Bradley. If he [Bradley] can take the punches of Manny Pacquiao, it’s gonna be a very, very interesting type of fight.”

I don’t agree with Arum in him saying that Pacquiao has a lot more power than Bradley. I think he punches harder, there’s no doubt about that. But Pacquiao doesn’t punch a lot harder than Bradley. If Bradley is able to land his shots all night long, Pacquiao is going to be miserable and will look like he walked through a meat shredder by the end of the fight. And Bradley’s a much better body puncher than anyone Pacquiao has fought since Miguel Cotto in 2009. Antonio Margarito could punch to the body with good power, but he was reluctant to do so because he kept getting hit so often each time he’d get in close to try and throw his shots.

Bradley is the fastest fighter that Pacquiao has fought in quite some time. I don’t count Sugar Shane Mosley because he really wasn’t putting any pressure on Pacquiao or attempting to land many shots after he tasted the canvas early in the fight.

Mosley looked like he was just trying to survive see the end of the fight on his feet. But Bradley will have the speed, power and the determination to try and win the fight. He’s going to be putting it on Pacquiao all fight long and looking to punish him. If Pacquiao’s stamina isn’t improved from his last few fights, we could see Bradley fight well enough to win by a decision. It’ll be up to the judges as to whether to give Bradley the win by a decision or not. I have my doubts because I think they’re not going to let Pacquiao lose unless he takes a major whipping and is knocked down a few times. We could see Pacquiao get dominated again like in his last fight against Juan Manuel Marquez and then given the decision by a couple of judges anyway.
