Image: Roach says he's sticking around to get Pacquiao ready for an eventual Mayweather fightBy Chris Williams: Trainer Freddie Roach revealed why he hasn’t retired as a trainer from boxing despite his worsening Parkinson’s disease condition by saying he wants to help get his fighter Manny Pacquiao ready for an eventual fight against unbeaten Floyd Mayweather Jr. in the future. Sounds good to me, but I think Roach needs do some convincing of Pacquiao to take the smaller cut of the money for that fight so we can make that happen otherwise Roach is wasting his time trying to get him ready for a fight that will never happen.

Roach told LA 18 “The reason I stay around is because I want this fight and to get him ready for Mayweather. I feel it’s going to happen and it looks like it can happen. We will do everything in our power to make this fight happen, even give more of the money if he wants. If that’s what it takes to get him into the ring.”

I think Roach needs to let Pacquiao speak for himself when it comes to talking about money because the last time I checked, Pacquiao still wanted a 50-50 deal. It’s no good if Roach is saying one thing while Pacquiao is saying something completely different. It just leads to Mayweather getting confused and wasting his time by trying to line up a fight against Manny when he’s asking for too much green stuff.

But I think Roach is really giving himself too much credit if he thinks he can train Pacquiao to overcome his many flaws and limitations to beat a talent like Mayweather. If Pacquiao can’t even beat an aging fighter like Juan Manuel Marquez then how is Roach going to help Pacquiao beat someone like Mayweather? That was a fail on Roach’s part because Pacquiao looked awful against Marquez. He might as well retire now because Pacquiao won’t stand a chance against Mayweather no matter what things Roach tries to teach him. There isn’t enough things for Roach to teach Pacquiao for him to beat a quality fighter like Mayweather.
