Maccarinelli, 31, expects to cruise through this bout and then will be making a quick return next month on March 23rd to face British cruiserweight champion Shane McPhilbin. Maccarinelli is just trying to keep winning so he can get an eventual title shot against WBO light heavyweight champion Cleverly and that’s if Cleverly can hang on to his title for very much longer.

Maccarinelli isn’t going to be just given a shot at Cleverly on a silver platter, as Maccarinelli has a lot to do to earn shot by getting through a number of fights without getting knocked out again. He’s been stopped four times in the past four years and a lot of people think he’s no longer got the chin to beat the better fighters. We won’t know for sure for a while, though, because Healy and McPhilbin aren’t world class fighters and don’t have the power to dent Maccarinelli’s chin in any way.

Tonight’s fight should be a breeze for Maccarinelli, because the 37-year-old Healy is no threat to him due to his lack of power and he’s lost seven out of his last ten fights since 2009. Maccarinelli still should be careful as not to get clipped by Healy because he’ll likely be swinging for the fences all night knowing that if he can land a big shot he could take Maccarinelli in the same way that Alexander Frenkel, Denis Lebedev, David Haye and Ola Afolabi did in the past few years. Maccarinelli needs to change his style to fight more on the outside, but thus far is still fighting in close and risking getting hurt again.
