Image: Khan's dad gives Peterson one week deadline to agree to a rematch with Amir or they'll move up to 147By William Mackay: Shah Khan, the father for Amir Khan, has given IBF/WBA light welterweight champion Lamont Peterson a one week deadline for him to either agree to an immediate rematch or else they’ll move on and move up to 147 to try and chase Floyd Mayweather Jr. to get a fight with him.

Shah told thesun.co.uk “The talks have moved on a little bit but it’s taking quite some time. If we haven’t reached an agreement by the end of the week then Amir will move on with his career. He’ll [Khan] move up to 147 and chase the big bout [Mayweather] at that weight.”

That’s funny. Shah and Amir are giving Peterson, the two-belt champion, and ultimatum. I think all those two years that Khan held the title has left too much of an imprint on Shah and Amir’s minds, because they still seem to be going on as if Amir is still the champion.

I hate to be the one to break this to Khan and daddy Shah, but you’re not the champion now; you’re just another one of the many hopeful challengers and trying to get a meeting the king Peterson. Instead of giving ultimatums, Khan and Shah really need to be groveling to try and get this fight. We’ve already seen that Khan and Golden Boy Promotions appeal hasn’t gotten them the desired results.

Bad mouthing Peterson in the media hasn’t worked as well. All it’s done is make him not want to fight Khan all the more because of how disrespectful and arrogant Khan has been. And now they’re giving another ultimatum. This is priceless and almost textbook example of how not to get a fight with Peterson. Why hasn’t Golden Boy put the clamps on Shah and Amir by telling to keep their traps shut?

With a victory over Peterson, Khan may be too tainted for Mayweather to fight. He wouldn’t look good fighting Khan next as bad as Khan looked against Peterson. That would be like cherry picking and Mayweather doesn’t believe in doing that. Khan is going to have to rebuild his career if he moves up in weight and I don’t think he’s got the chin to accomplish that at that weight. He won’t be able to get a Mayweather fight if he takes on an old welterweight like Shane Mosley. It’s going to take more than that. Khan will beat some younger fighters still in their prime and who can fight.
