He had no idea that Chisora was going to slap Vitali and he’s really upset that the incident took place.

Charles told the BBC Sport that what Chisora did was “Totally unacceptable. I’m speechless. I’m with him 16 hours every day and I didn’t see that coming. It’s totally unacceptable. I need to speak to Frank Warren [Chisora’s promoter] as to what happens next. I’m not Dereck Chisora. Like I said, it’s unacceptable.”

This move by Chisora will likely cost him a lot of money with a fine by the World Boxing Council sanctioning body. Usually when another fighter strikes and opponent outside of the ring it results in a heavy fine. Given that Chisora isn’t making really huge money for this fight, it’s going to hurt him big time in the pocket book for the slap.

Hopefully, he feels it was worth it because the WBC could take a big chunk out of his prize money for this incident. If Chisora beats Vitali, then it won’t matter and it will be seen as a good move on his part to drum up excitement for the fight. However, since it’s highly unlikely that Chisora will win, it just seems like a poorly thought out tactic. It was clearly a mind game strategy by Chisora to try and anger Vitali and throw him off mentally by either creating some fear of Chisora or have Vitali so angry that he’ll want to come out early to slug it out.

It doesn’t seem like a tactic that will work no matter how you look at it. If Vitali is unnerved by this move, then he’ll box Chisora carefully and pound out an easy 12 round decision. If Vitali is pissed off about it, he’ll likely destroy Chisora within a round or two. He’s that good and has the talent to end the fight if he wants to with an all out assault.
