Chisora doesn’t care that people see him as having no chance against Vitali

Image: Chisora doesn't care that people see him as having no chance against VitaliBy Scott Gilfoid: No.15 WBC ranked heavyweight contender Dereck Chisora (15-2, 9 KO’s) probably has next to no chance of beating WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko (43-2, 40 KO’s) on Saturday night in Munich, Germany, but Chisora remains convinced that he’ll be able to shock the world by pulling off a huge upset.

For Chisora to do that, he’s going to have to fight a couple levels above what he’s shown in the past, as he’s never been a particularly impressive heavyweight. When you look at him the thought that comes to mind is that he’s a decent domestic level heavyweight but hardly a world class contender. The WBC has him ranked at the bottom of the division, which is probably fitting for the talent that Chisora has shown in his biggest fights.

Chisora told Sky Sports News “I don’t care what people think. They are not the ones who are going into the ring. I am the one who is doing the fighting so I will decide what happens.”

It seems like Chisora has a bit of a chip on his shoulder, doesn’t it? However, I disagree with him by his assertion that he decides what happens in the ring. I think it’s kind of a two-way street here. Chisora can make some decisions but that doesn’t mean Vitali is just going to just stand there and Chisora pound away like the injured Robert Helenius did in Chisora’s fight with him last December. Realistically, it will be Vitali who decides what happens in the ring, not Chisora.

It’s kind of an arrogant way of thinking that he will be the one to decide what happens when he’s not nearly as talented. It’s like standing in front of a large stampeding bull and saying that you’ll be the one that decides what happens. No, I think it’s going to be the bull because he’s bigger and will make mincemeat of you.

Let’s face it; Chisora is basically fodder for Vitali and it doesn’t matter that Chisora supposedly believes he’s the decider in this fight. His self-belief will have no bearing in this fight because he’s all alone in that belief and for good reason – Vitali is so much better than him that it’s not even funny.

I think a better fight for Chisora would have been a rematch with the guy that easily beat him last year, Tyson Fury. That’s who Chisora should have been fighting instead of Vitali. It’s like Chisora is being rewarded for losing to Fury and Helenius by being given a title shot against Vitali. That just seems wrong.

I’d rather have seen Chisora fight Fury again and if he could beat him this time, which I can’t see happening, then Chisora should get a title shot against Vitali. But to be facing a short heavyweight that was completely schooled by Fury, that’s more than a little disappointing to me. But the weird thing is, Chisora thinks he’s going to win.

It’s going to be sad when reality hits Chisora in the puss in the 1st round when he starts getting clobbered by Vitali and clowned. By then, Chisora will start to recognize that he really stepped in it this time and there won’t be any out of the mess except to take his beating like a man and hope to survive the full 12 rounds without getting destroyed.
