Vitali & Haye, still talking the talk

Image: Vitali & Haye, still talking the talkBy Rimar Cry: I was surprised to hear that Vitali is reconsidering his fight with David Haye because they can’t agree on money.

Let’s be clear, Haye disgraced himself against Vitali’s younger brother Wladimir Klitschko. By any measure it was a terrible performance, and beyond naive to assume that simply countering Wladimir’s lame leaning technique would be enough.

Haye may well have a decisive punch, but he still has to land it for the jackpot. Unfortunately, he was as impotent and flaccid against Wladimir as Audley Harrison had been against him some months previously. As was so clearly demonstrated, athleticism and genuine dynamite in both hands is simply not enough. It doesn’t make up for the short fall – boxing skill deficiency.

So now we come to part two of the saga; the pointless matchup against Vitali that once again seems to be in question because of how the spoils are divided.

This fight was never about the money. Vitali want’s to KO Haye and publicly humiliate him. The money is just an easy payday.

Given the futility of the fight and the fact that Haye is no longer champion, does this give Vitali grounds to demand a huge percentage? Many would immediately say “yes”, after all Haye is not a liked man by many in the boxing community.

I doubt I’d even tune in to watch this fight for free, but the people who are excited about it should understand that Vitali will owe most of his earnings to Haye, as Wladimir did previously.

It’s Haye’s notoriety that sells tickets, and Vitali should remember that. Before Haye started openly taunting the brothers, most people outside of Germany had given up on the heavy weight division. The Ukrainian brothers are the very personification of the word dull.

Haye will loose this fight, there is no question about that. Without a ladder Haye has next to no chance of even touching Vitali’s chin. While Vitali may be ageing, he’s hardly out of shape and struggling against his opposition.

This will be David Haye’s last outing whether he likes it or not, so there should be a relatively even financial split and an ambulance waiting within easy reach.
