Image: Mayweather tells Arum to contact Schaefer to start putting the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight togetherBy Chris Williams: Floyd Mayweather Jr. responded to feedback from Top Rank CEO Bob Arum today on his twitter account, letting Arum know who his management representative is to start putting a fight together between him and Arum’s fighter Manny Pacquiao.

Mayweather told Arum to contact Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer to start negotiating the fight. Mayweather did this in response to Arum saying he couldn’t start negotiating a mega fight with Mayweather and Pacquiao because he didn’t know who Mayweather’s representative was and he wasn’t just going to deal with anyone that contacts him out of the blue saying that they work for Mayweather.

A lot of boxing fans saw this as yet another excuse by Arum not to make the Pacquiao-Mayweather fight happen, as Arum has already listed a number of excuses why he can’t make the fight. This was just one more to add to the list.

Here’s what Mayweather had to say to Arum today on his twitter account:

“I’m ready to fight Pacquiao [on] 5/5. Bob Arum knows the date can’t change. I have my guarantee. Call Schaefer [from Golden Boy Promotions] & Al [Haymon] and stop lying to the public.”

Ouch! Mayweather made it clear in plain language who Arum needs to contact, not that it wasn’t already abundantly clear. Arum has to know already who to contact because these guys are the ones Mayweather has been working with for a long time.
Mayweather won’t budge from the May 5th date, so Arum is going to have to work with that date if he wants to put the fight together.

If he says anything other than that date, then he’s basically he doesn’t want Pacquiao to fight Mayweather.

It’s going to be interesting to see what excuse Arum comes up with now. He can’t say he doesn’t know who represents Mayweather now. This doesn’t mean the fight will get made because Arum will likely come back with something along the lines of Pacquiao’s cut not being ready by May 5th, the outside arena won’t be built by that date, and Mayweather might not get his boxing license. If Arum doesn’t want the fight to happen, he can always come up with a new round of excuses or come back with the ones and just plant his feet into the ground and refuse to budge.
I don’t see anything being different in the future. If Arum doesn’t want the fight, it won’t happen I suspect he’ll some other reasons why he can’t match Pacquiao with Mayweather the next time they try and put the fight together later on in the year. Arum and Pacquiao’s trainer Freddie Roach seem to think November is the magic date for a Mayweather-Pacquiao fight, but I doubt it. There will always some reason for why the fight can’t be made.
