Image: Maccarinelli to fight on Cleverly vs. Karpency undercard on February 25thBy Sean McDaniel: In a move that could mean an interesting fight down the road, former WBO cruiserweight champion Enzo Maccarinelli (33-5, 26 KO’s) will be fighting on the undercard of the February 25th fight card headlined by WBO light heavyweight champion Nathan Cleverly vs. Tommy Karpency at the Motorpoint Arena, Cardiff, Wales.

Maccarinelli, 31, doesn’t have an opponent picked out as of yet nor is it known how many rounds the fight will be, but it’s best not to expect too much from Maccarinelli yet. This is only his 2nd fight at light heavyweight and it’s probably not a good idea to put him in tough until they’re sure he can handle better fighters at this weight class. In his last fight, Maccarinelli destroyed previously unbeaten Gyorgy Marosi in a 1st TKO last November.

Maccarinelli looked dangerously powerful for a light heavyweight with power that would knock anyone out in the division. However, Maccarinelli looked thin and almost sickly because of the weight loss. He was fine for one round but it’s hard to say how well he will do if a fight goes six or rounds. He completely fall apart due to the low weight he’s carrying.

Maccarinelli’s power has never been an issue for him. It’s his chin that makes you worry for his safety. He wants a big money fight against Cleverly, but for them to do it right, Maccarinelli has to beat some quality fighters for the boxing public to get excited about a Cleverly vs. Maccarinelli fight.

He’s a question mark right now. But with his power, Maccarinelli could end up mowing down anyone that his promoter puts in with him. He’s got scary power at light heavyweight. Maccarinelli appears to have all of the power that he had a cruiserweight but is punching with more speed. That makes the guy really dangerous for anyone. Hopefully, he’s being taught to fight more on the outside like Wladimir Klitschko. That’s how Maccarinelli is going to need to fight to save himself from potentially getting knocked out again.
