This was in response to Khan’s appeal made to the WBA and IBF. We’ll be hearing from the IBF next week about whether they’ll order a rematch and/or change the result of Khan’s loss to a no contest. If that’s the case, Khan will get the IBF belt back, but will still be out the WBA strap.

Khan told Sky Sports News “Normally I would give myself a 10 week training camp. I think the fight [Khan-Peterson rematch] could happen round about mid-April or May. We’ll be more than ready.”

Khan seems to be calling the shots. Shouldn’t it be the other way around? If Peterson still has the belts, how is that Khan is telling when and where the rematch will take place? I think Khan is having a hard time adjusting to the fact that he’s just a challenger now and not a champion. I think he needs to understand that he’s just a contender. Khan acts as if they stripped Peterson of his titles and gave them back.

Khan really doesn’t care too much about the belts themselves. What he’s looking for is to avenge his loss to Peterson and prove that he’s the better fighter. Khan didn’t prove that last December. What Khan proved was that he couldn’t take Peterson’s pressure and didn’t have any skills to fight on the inside. Khan lost the fight by a 12 round split decision but he feels he was the better man and only lost because of the referee, judges and the mystery man. It sounds like a fighter that can’t accept reality, doesn’t it?

Khan’s future as a potential mega star rests with the Peterson rematch. If Khan loses the fight, he can forget about fighting Floyd Mayweather Jr. That fight won’t happen ever. By the time Khan beats two or three year’s worth of fodder opponents supplied to him by Golden Boy, Mayweather will be long gone in his retirement.
