Arum has three trump cards left

Image: Arum has three trump cards leftBy Robert “Big Moe” Elmore: The cut is open. The excuses are running out. Bob Arum’s plans of trying to keep his cash cow Manny Pacquiao away from the dangerous Floyd Mayweather have been thwarted. It has become very clear that Arum has no intentions what so ever of matching his cash cow against Mayweather.

However, this comes as no shock. But Arum still has a few trump cards I believe he’s going to play. The first trump card he will use is; he will wait until Mayweather announces his opponent and then announce Manny’s opponent (although I believe he’s already selected and that is Marquez). This way Arum can spin the story and say they wanted to fight Mayweather, but he already has an opponent. But Arum, as told to Dan Rafeal, he will in no way shape or form put Mayweather’s name into the mix when he talks to Manny. So it doesn’t matter what Floyd does, Arum has already put his foot down. Arum has also stated that he wanted to build a 45,000 seat outdoor arena on the Vegas strip to maximize the potential of the mega fight. Let me tell you something.

First of all, that’s going to cost a pretty penny to construct and I doubt Arum will front the money to have it built. Plus the idea is to limit the seating so the people can buy the fight on pay per view because that’s where the real money is made anyway. The gate and ticket sales will be great, but not enough to satisfy all parties involved. The pay per view will exceed 2.4 million easily, and the money will come pouring in so Arum can save the construction crap. I also think that it’s cute that Manny says he will take less money. But less money for Pac, means less money for Arum. And asking Arum to take less money, out of a potential 300 billion dollar fight, is like asking a dog to drive a car. It aint happening.

The second trump will be the defamation suit still pending against Mayweather. Pacquiao’s attorney, David Marroso stated “At this time were are not aware of any reason including Mayweather’s criminal situation, that would disrupt or delay Pacquiao’s case from proceeding”.

But that was on December 26th of last year. I think Arum will use this to block the fight while he maneuvers in the background. As we all know, the sentence was pardoned allowing Money May to pursue his reserved May 5th date at the MGM Grand in Vegas. Pac says he’s going to insist he wants Mayweather. That’s good and all. But if Arum says no, then that what it will be. Right now, Manny is really in no position to tell his promoter what to do. With the advances he’s been asking for, and the brutal contract he has with Top Rank, I’d say he has no choice but to ride it out. And it looks like there is no buyout option attached. And lastly, I think Arum will end of feeding Pac to Bradley (his new cash cow) in the end. Cotto is out the picture because he hasn’t resigned. Lamont Peterson hasn’t signed to Top Rank yet (but watch out in the next couple of days) which leaves Marquez and Bradley whom he can control. On the flip side, for those who believe that Pac “fights for the people” give it a rest. He recently asked for 28 million if the Marquez fight goes down. His purses have been 20 million for the last 4 fights and now all of a sudden?

FT: When Manyweather announces his opponent, no surgery will be required, no doctor will be consulted, the cut will close on its own, and training will take place. You better believe it
