Image: Mayweather's 90 days jail sentence won't slow down Pacquiao's defamation case against himBy Dan Ambrose: The defamation case brought by WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao against Floyd Mayweather Jr. won’t be delayed by Mayweather’s 90 day jail term and will move ahead according to the latest news.

It’s still unknown when the case will go to trial but it likely will be soon in 2012. It doesn’t appear that Pacquiao has any interest in dropping the case against Mayweather even though it could potentially hinter putting a fight together with the American star.

The chances of success for Pacquiao are unknown at this point. It would be more than a little disappointing you would have to imagine to dump all the money that Pacquiao has put into this and not anything out of it other than the publicity it generates and maybe getting Mayweather to quiet down with some of his talk.

At this point it may not even matter if this case eventually makes it all but impossible to put a Mayweather fight together because the fight might not turn out a positive one for Pacquiao anyway judging by how poorly he fought in his last fight against Juan Manuel Marquez.

Pacquiao had looked great up until that fight beating his promoter Bob Arum’s fighters from his Top Rank stable, but when Pacquiao was put in with Marquez, a fighter that is outside of Arum’s stable of fighters; Pacquiao struggled and appeared to lose the fight in the minds of many boxing fans.

Marquez is the same fighter that Mayweather easily beat by a lopsided 12 round unanimous decision two years ago. As such, it may not be a bad thing if the defamation case ruins the chances of a Mayweather-Pacquiao fight taking place because it might not be a good thing for the fight to happen if you’re Pacquiao.

If Pacquiao is serious about wanting to really fight Mayweather, then you would have to assume suing Mayweather as a self defeating move on Pacquiao’s part. Unless he believes Mayweather will be okay with being sued and losing a lot of money and will still want to fight him. People react differently to these kind of things. Some people wouldn’t care and would still have no problems forgetting about it, while others might be angry to have lost money and won’t want any part of dealing with the person that sued them. It does seem kind of odd for Pacquiao to still want to fight the person he’s suing. It doesn’t make sense to me.
