Image: Khan tastes defeat; Froch is the next highly hyped Brit about to bite the dustBy Scott Gilfoid: One highly hyped Brit has tasted defeat this past Saturday night in Amir Khan getting beaten by the skillful American Lamont Peterson, and now the next Brit is about get a nice ‘L’ in his loss column in WBC super middleweight champion Carl Froch (28-1, 20 KO’s), who faces WBA junior middleweight champion Andre Ward (24-0, 13 KO’s) at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey in the Super Six tournament finals.

If you thought that Khan looked bad in getting beaten, just watch how bad Froch is going to look in getting dominated by the highly talented Ward. The Froch-Ward fight doesn’t figure to be anywhere near as close as the Khan-Peterson fight. For one, Ward is simply much too talented for a limited fighter like Froch to do much in this one. The speed difference alone between these two guys will be enough to where Froch will have no chance to win. But when you figure in Ward’s better boxing fundamentals, this fight starts heading towards a total mismatch.

Froch has so many habits that he’s failed to change while coming up the ranks. I think the reason for that is twofold. First of all, Froch was lightly matched until he entered the Super Six tournament in 2009. This enabled Froch go get away with a lot of bad habits because of how weak his opposition was. And since Froch started facing quality opposition in the Super Six tournament in 2009, Froch has either been too stubborn or too inflexible for him to have made the needed changes to his fighting style to be successful.

Froch has a little mini two-fight win streak going for him with wins over Arthur Abraham and Glen Johnson. Before that, Froch was beaten by Ward victim Mikkel Kessler by a 12 round unanimous decision last year in April. Froch just couldn’t deal with Kessler’s style and got beat. Ward has no problems beating Kessler by an 11th round technical decision two years ago in November 2009.

I think Froch is going to go down to defeat at the hands of Ward on Saturday and there’s no game plan that can devised that will save Froch from this loss. It’s one of those things where it comes down to Froch’s lack of talent that will keep him from winning against Ward.
