By Chris Williams: WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao has reportedly purchased an expensive $225,000 458 Italia, 570 horsepower 4.5 liter V8 in the United States while getting ready for his November 12th fight against Juan Manuel Marquez, according to the Manila Bulletin.

I don’t know about you but I think it’s a bit of a waste of money. Pacquiao has already got a bunch of cars at home in the Philippines and now he’s adding an expensive car that will likely lose a lot of value in the future. You never know if Pacquiao may need money one day and all this buying of cars seems a bit wasteful if you ask me. Pacquiao is a congressman and I think politicians need to live a little more frugal to set a good example for their constituents who aren’t living high on the hog.

Pacquiao will be getting $20 million for the Marquez fight, plus additional money on the in the pay per view sales. However, Pacquiao gives away a lot of money and I think he needs to be careful in the kinds of purchases he makes so that he’s not someone who is forced to fight until he’s 40 and over because he’s not spent his money wisely.

I personally couldn’t drive one of those things if I lived in the Philippines. I would feel like I was trying to show off my wealth I wouldn’t want to do that.

The last thing we want to see is a broke Pacquiao some day working as a trainer or in some kind of other capacity to pay debts. This is why Pacquiao needs to get control of his spending early while he’s still making good money.
